The Danetian Academy has just released Lexerat, a small Python tool for turning plain-text lexicons into neatly-formatted dictionaries in HTML and LaTeX.

Lexerat lets you keep a lexicon in a plain text that can be edited with any text editor. Simple notation organizes lemmas, definitions, etymologies, parts of speech, and other lexicographical information into a human-readable and machine-readable format.

Moreover, Lexerat accomplishes a very difficult task: reversing a one-way dictionary. Many conlang dictionaries are only kept as Conlang-English dictionaries. Lexerat makes it possible to take this one-way dictionary and reverse it into an English-Conlang dictionary, thereby creating a two-way dictionary.

Originally developed for the Dictionary of the Danetian language, Lexerat can be used with any language. It is has been released as free software under the MIT License.

You may find the source code, documentation, and examples in its GitHub repository.
